dvm360, the leading multimedia provider of animal health care communications, education and research for veterinary professionals, has released its 2nd annual Top Recommended Veterinary Products™ guide, which summarizes survey responses from 811 companion animal veterinarians and aims to help consumers make informed decisions when purchasing pet products. The guide was sent to dvm360 magazine subscribers this month and will be available to attendees at our Fetch dvm360 conference to be held August 25-27, 2023, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Conducted by MJH Life Sciences® Healthcare Research & Analytics (HRA®), the survey’s results are separated by categories including behavior, companion animal food and treats, dermatology, nutraceuticals, oral health, parasite prevention, and miscellaneous products. Each category also includes helpful articles that take a closer look at how veterinarians make their decisions.
“Our profession of veterinarians has come together to create the ultimate guide for recommended veterinary products,” said Adam Christman, DVM, MBA, chief veterinary officer, dvm360. “We know how valuable veterinarians’ opinions are to pet owners. This guide will help pet owners provide the very best for their pets. It’s a testament to the collective expertise of veterinarians, ensuring pets receive the care and products they truly deserve.”
The most recommended hypoallergenic dog treat, for example, was Hill’s Prescription Diet Hypoallergenic Dog Treats, while the top pick for cat treats was Greenies Feline Dental Treats. Hill’s Science Diet Adult was the most recommended commercial food for adult dogs, and Hill’s Science Diet Adult Savory Salmon Entrée is the No. 1 choice for canned feline food.
These products are part of an industry that grew 10.8% in 2022 to $136.8 billion, including $58.1 billion spent just on pet food and treats, according to the American Pet Products Association. Industry growth is expected to continue through 2023.1
