We asked and you answered, your votes have been counted and you decided your favorite classic Oklahoma State Fair snack.

From a pool of eight original choices, you narrowed it down until just two remained, and with 55.3% of the vote, the winner is footlong corn dogs.

How did corn dogs earn the crown among classic fair food in Oklahoma?

When the bracket launched, we gave you four sets of classic fair foods in head-to-head matchups.

  • Turkey legs vs. footlong corn dogs
  • Root beer jugs vs. state fair lemonade
  • Funnel cakes vs. giant cinnamon rolls
  • Indian tacos vs. loaded curly fries

From there, you narrowed the field, choosing corn dogs, root beer, funnel cakes and Indian tacos as the Final Four, and then shaving the competitors even further until just footlong corn dogs and funnel cakes remained.

Corn dogs took their early matchups with ease, beating turkey legs with 73.3% of the vote in round one, and root beer jugs with 73.2% of the vote in round two.

It wasn’t until the finals that funnel cakes narrowed the margin, but corn dogs still pulled off the win, gaining more than 55% of votes.

The reality is that when the state fair begins Thursday, you won’t have to choose between any of these classic snacks.

What else is there to look forward to with food at the fair this year?

While everyone loves a classic, don’t forget to check out all of the new foods at this year’s fair. As usual, new offerings run the gamut from sweet to savory and include some one-of-a-kind and out-of-the-box creations. From meat and cheese to cookies and crepes — there’s even a Barbie Lemonade and a Pickle Pie to try.

Several foods that were new in 2022 also have made a return, including: Pickle Pizza at Swain’s Pizza On-A-Stick, Snake Bite Nachos at Pioneer Wagon, and Apple Pie Churro Bites at Project Krave.

And don’t worry, there’s still more fair food coverage to come as the annual Great TASTE of a Fair competition rolls into town ahead of opening day this week. The Oklahoman will join others selected to judge entries and bring you the inside scoop, bite and sip of what not to miss at this year’s Oklahoma State Fair.
